Chris and I went to Switzerland this weekend. We arrived in Zurich around 10 am on Friday and checked into the hotel around 11 am. After unloading our things, we set out to explore Zurich. We walked down Bahnofstrasse -- Zurich's 5th Avenue. After stopping in a number of chocolate shops, we had lunch at Lipp Brasserie, a very pricey establishment (actually, all the restaurants in Switzerland are pricey). After lunch, we visited a number of chocolate shops -- Sprungli, Bachman, Läderach, and Teuscher - to name a few. Ironically, we had sampled Teuschers more than 20 years ago. There are two store in NYC, one in Rockefeller Center and the other on Madison Avenue. Teuscher ships their chocolates to NYC weekly. In the evening, we dined at Kaiser's Reblauche. The building the restaurant is housed in is a medieval building that dates back to the 12th century. Apparently, Goethe slept there. While dinner was great, the tables for two were on top of each other. That part of dinner made me feel like we were in NYC.
The next day we decided to look for a trip outside of Zurich. After consulting the desk at the Marriot, we discovered that Lucerne was only a 50 minute train ride away. So off we went. Our excursion to Lucerne was well worth it It is an amazingly beautiful little city. After exploring Lucerne, we headed back to Zurich. We walked around Zurich a bit more and then got ready for dinner. This time we went to Kindli. I had vension, red cabbage and Rösti (potatoes similar to hash browns). Dinner was amazing.
Although the forecast for the weekend was for rain, we got lucky -- unusual for the Corsicos. It truly was a great weekend.
