We got up around 8:30 and headed out in search of a Hungarian bakery that Chris read about in our guidebook. After walking for 15 minutes, we stopped in a floral shop and asked about the bakery. Well, it turns out that the bakery no longer exists. So we settled for what was supposed to be a quick bite at a coffee shop, but in reality ended up to be an hour long wait for iced lattes.
After our "quick" breakfast we headed to Hero's Square. In Hero's Square and Millenary Monument, the Archangel Gabriel is offering King Stephens the crown. It looks remarkably like the Brandenburg Gate. The next sight on the map was the giant hour glass. It begins pouring sand from the top to the bottom on January 1st of the year and finishes a year later at 11:59 (59) December 31st. It is then reset for the next year. The Hour Glass commenorates Hungary's entrance into the European Union. Right near the hour glass is the 1956 memorial honoring those who gave their lives in the Hungarian uprising. After a busy morning, we stopped for lunch at "The Big Fish." After the lunch, we visited the Terror Museum and then crossed the Danube River (via the Chain Bridge -- which connects Buda and Pest). We took the funicular to the top of the hill. After walking around by the Royal Palace rebuilt by the Habsburgs in 1686 after being destroyed in a battle, we enjoyed a glass of wine from a scenic point along Castle Hill. For dinner, we went to Tigris an upscale Hungarian restaurant. The highlight of the meal was the Sommelier. He treated Chris to a Hungarian wine tasting.
