We got up early this morning to take a tour of the Palace of Versailles. We climbed in the van and headed to Versailles. We arrived in Versailles where it was 10 degrees colder than Paris with snow on the ground. After walking around the gardens and freezing, we headed in for the tour. We were struck by the opulence and extravagant living at that time -- the gold on the roof of the Palace is real -- believe it or not.
After Versailles, we had onion soup at a café. C went back to work and S and I walked to an area of Paris where there is a canal. The canal was nice, but with some foliage and flowers it would have been prettier. We took the Metro back to the hotel and got ready for dinner. We went to Aux Lyonnais, a restaurant recommended by the concierge (the two places C tried to have her book were full). The appetizers and entree were o.k., but the desserts were amazing -- pear souffle and shortbread with a hazelnut butter.
Here are the pictures from Day 3.
