September 13, 2013 -- An Excursion to Burg Eltz

An Excursion to Burg Eltz

We left Oberursel around 10 am and arrived at Burg Eltz around 11:45.  Burg Eltz is a castle that has remained in the same family for 800 years and is still privately owned.  The Castle is amazingly well-preserved and has fully furnished rooms with furnishings and tapestries dating back 500 or more years.

After parking, we took the footpath to the Castle, a fifteen minute walk.  As you come around the last curve, you are hit by this beautiful sight.  The Castle is beautiful and so are the surrounding hiking  paths.  When we arrived we had a quick bite to eat at the only place around -- a snack bar on the Castle grounds.  Jack tried the wursts -- yes, there is a pattern here.  We sampled kartoffelpuffer and flammkuchen as well.   After lunch, we took a guided tour of the Castle.  After about 3 hours, we headed back to the car.  This time the footpath walk was completely up hill -- we made it though.

Once home, we dined in again and packed for our trip to Rothenburg!
