September 15, 2013 -- Rothenburg and then Wurzburg

September 15, 2013 -- Rothenburg and Wurzburg

The Keatings and the Corsicos dragged themselves out of bed early, had breakfast and then set out for a walk along the top of the wall surrounding the city.  Yes, it was raining, but not hard, and there was an overhang to keep us dry.  Truly, Rothenburg, at least for these Americans, was just so charming and quaint.  (Admittedly, it is a bit commercial with great Christmas shops (everything is open on Sundays -- that is unheard of in Germany), but it still doesn't lose its charm).

After the walk on the wall around the city, Phyl and I sent the men to check out of the hotel while we shopped.  Phyllis bought some Christmas gifts (secrets that cannot be revealed at this time).  I purchased some Schnee Bälle, some smokers (the Night Watchman and a Doc), an ornament and a print of Rothenburg.    Let's just say, I love the Christmas shops and could shop there for hours.  I am somewhat sure that Phyllis feels the same way!

After depleting our checking accounts, we headed for Wurzburg.  Wurzburg is beautiful as well, but unlike Rothenburg it did not survive the bombings during WWII; therefore, much of it has been rebuilt.

After Wurzburg, we travelled back home.  We stayed in for dinner.  Everyone opting for vodka sauce instead of German wursts -- even Jack

Rothenburg until you see the caption Wurzburg!
