September 26, 2013 -- A Visitor

September 26, 2013 -- A Visitor

C's BI buddy and our friend from the States, Sheila visited last night.  She and MacIntosh bonded right away -- Mac jumped on her, mouthed her hand and pawed her.  She refused to let me lock up Mac and before you knew it Mac was sitting with her on the couch.   Considering Mac is 110 pounds, it is quite a funny scene.  Unfortunately, by the time I got my camera out, Mac had moved.  But here they are together in a posed shot.

September 22, 2013 -- One Big Brezel

It is that time of year -- Oktober Fest is here.  In each of the grocery stores, there is a bakery.  The KU Bakery at Scheck-In had Riesenbrezel  -- Giant Pretzel.  I couldn't resist.  Needless to say, I made Sarah pose.

September 16, 2013 -- The Keatings Last Day -- Bad Homburg

September 16th

After a fair amount of driving over the weekend, we decided to stay close to home.  After a quiet morning, we went to Bad Homburg for lunch.  We found a cute little place called Cafe Merci.  Afterward we stopped at Le Art of Sucre to pick up some desserts for later and, of course, macaroons.  The rest of the day, we just relaxed and Phyllis and Jack packed for their early flight home the next day.

Below are a few photos of the smoker, schnee bälle and my print of Rothenburg.  Yes, I am entertained by the little things!

September 15, 2013 -- Rothenburg and then Wurzburg

September 15, 2013 -- Rothenburg and Wurzburg

The Keatings and the Corsicos dragged themselves out of bed early, had breakfast and then set out for a walk along the top of the wall surrounding the city.  Yes, it was raining, but not hard, and there was an overhang to keep us dry.  Truly, Rothenburg, at least for these Americans, was just so charming and quaint.  (Admittedly, it is a bit commercial with great Christmas shops (everything is open on Sundays -- that is unheard of in Germany), but it still doesn't lose its charm).

After the walk on the wall around the city, Phyl and I sent the men to check out of the hotel while we shopped.  Phyllis bought some Christmas gifts (secrets that cannot be revealed at this time).  I purchased some Schnee Bälle, some smokers (the Night Watchman and a Doc), an ornament and a print of Rothenburg.    Let's just say, I love the Christmas shops and could shop there for hours.  I am somewhat sure that Phyllis feels the same way!

After depleting our checking accounts, we headed for Wurzburg.  Wurzburg is beautiful as well, but unlike Rothenburg it did not survive the bombings during WWII; therefore, much of it has been rebuilt.

After Wurzburg, we travelled back home.  We stayed in for dinner.  Everyone opting for vodka sauce instead of German wursts -- even Jack

Rothenburg until you see the caption Wurzburg!
