April 6, 2013 -- An American in Germany

An American in Germany

We flew in from Paris in the morning and S was playing softball in the afternoon.  In addition to the FIS team (which plays slow pitch softball -- not real softball according to my girls), S is playing in a German league for the Bad Homburg Hornets.  They Hornets had a double header, but we only made the second game (they got mercied in the first).  Of course it was 32 degrees, not exactly softball weather.  S was a star.  She played left field, pitched 3 innings (as a foreigner she is only allowed to pitch 3 innings) and played third.  She went 3 for 4 with a walk.  Her hits included a triple (really a home run, but the coach held her at third for some reason).  Her team won  by nine.  As they were shaking hands, her coach said good game to the other players, but when he got to Sarah he said very good game.  They were thrilled to have her on the team.

A funny side note.  There is something surreal about watching softball and having people yell in German.  Instead of two outs, the coach yelled zwei aus and instead of good eye, the coach yelled gut zu sehen (good seeing).  In any event, the people were very nice and S had a chance to pitch!  No pictures from this game; I was just trying to stay warm.
